Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to hire the van?

We charge between $70-$115 per night for the van. Rates vary depending on the time of year (off-peak, shoulder or peak season) and the length of your stay. Discounts may be considered for longer hire periods of 3 weeks or more.

We apply a $60 service charge to all bookings. This covers restocking gas bottles and pantry items.

Camplify (our booking agent) applies 15% to the total booking and this is explained in more detail here.

If you would like to use our relocation service this is an additional fee added to your nightly hire rates. We charge $1.75 per km each way from our basecamp in Paynesville to deliver, set up and pack down the van.

Sample Gippsland destinations and relocation fees can be found here.

How far in advance do I need to book?

To avoid disappointment, we recommend booking:

  • 10-12 months in advance for Christmas and Easter
  • 6 months ahead for January and all school holidays
  • 3 months ahead for long weekends
Do I need to have towing experience?

Yes, we highly recommend that you have towing experience. If you are not confident towing a van, we recommend our relocation and set up service.

In addition to your nightly hire fees, we charge $1.75/km each way to deliver, set up and pack down the van. Rates are based on a return journey from our basecamp in Paynesville to your campsite. Ask for a quote when you submit a booking.

How do I set up the van?

If you are self-towing, we recommend you watch this video before the van handover.

How do I set up the awning?

If you are self-towing, we recommend you watch this video before the van handover.

Do I need electronic brakes fitted to my car?

If you don’t have electronic brakes fitted to your car, you can hire a portable electric brake unit from us for $50.

What type of car do I need to tow your van?

Since the vans have a gross vehicle mass of 1.5 tonne, we suggest a 4×4 or large 4×4 is best suited to towing.

Can I take the van off-road?

Our insurance policy allows up to 10km travel on well-made, unsealed roads.

Strictly no corrugated roads or 4WD tracks.

If you plan to drive on unsealed roads, this must be disclosed when you make an enquiry. The Camplify hire contract can be found here.

What are the check-in and check-out times?
What’s included in the vans?

Each van has it’s own unique set of inclusions, so be sure to check out The Fleet page.

Typically, the vans cater for four people and come equipped with a range of basic camping items.

  • Camp kitchen: electric toaster, electric kettle, stove top kettle, 2 burner gas stove, gas bottle, frypan, saucepan, tongs, egg flip, chopping boards and wash up bucket
  • Camp tables and camp chairs
  • Basic pantry: coffee bags, tea bags and a variety of food storage containers
  • Dinnerware: camping cups, plates, bowls, knives, forks, spoons, dessert spoons and salad bowl
  • Cleaning products: garbage bags, multipurpose cleaner, cleaning cloths, dish brush, dish liquid and paper towel
Do you supply linen?

We provide mattress protectors, tea towels and cleaning cloths as a standard item for all hires.

We do not supply bed linen, however a linen package can be added to your hire for a $40 fee which includes:

  • Tontine pillows with pillow cases
  • Tontine medium weight quilts and organic cotton quilt covers
  • Cotton fitted sheets
  • Bath towels
  • Sleeping bags (optional)

If you have special blanket or pillow requirements, we suggest bringing your own.

Is insurance included?

Yes. Insurance is included in the outlined price of the RV hire rates, there are no additional fees required.

How does payment process work?

When we confirm your booking, the next step is to pay for the booking. Camplify requires a 50% deposit of the booking’s total cost. All deposits are due within 48 hrs of being approved for your booking.

The final 50% of the total payment is due 30 days before your hire is set to commence. However, if you are booking for hire dates that are less then 30 days away, the website will collect the full amount.

The system will only accept your payment when your profile is complete. This means you need to upload a profile photo, your drivers license number and mobile number.

How is the Camplify booking fee calculated?
  • Premium roadside assistance anywhere in Australia,
  • 24/7 Camplify support,
  • Secure management of payments & bond,
  • Verified RV owners,
  • The protection of hiring contracts,
  • $3000 emergency accommodation cover; and
  • Third party liability insurance.

Camplify charge 15% to you (the hirer) and 5% to Earth & Sea Camper Van Hire (the owners).

How does the bond work?

The $1000 security bond works like a hotel. Seven days before your hire commences, Camplify take an imprint of your credit card. Funds are only claimed if any damage occurs, and Camplify manage the bond claim process.

What if something happens during the hire?

If something goes wrong you can feel safe that every hire booked through Earth & Sea Camper Van Hire (and our booking agent Camplify) includes nationwide roadside assistance. The Camplify team is always there to assist by calling 1300 416 133.

What is the pre-hire checklist?

A pre-hire check list is an important document that is completed together at handover. Think of it as a conditions report – similar to the commencement of a housing lease. Make sure you thoroughly inspect the RV during this time to avoid any potential post-hire discrepancies.

Do I need to clean the van?

The fleet is serviced regularly and professionally cleaned after every hire.

We expect our hirers to return the van in the same condition in which they are received, or a $99 cleaning fee will be charged.

We provide you with cleaning products to help you leave the van in a clean and tidy state. This includes: dustpan and brush, cleaning cloths, multipurpose cleaner and broom.

If you would prefer to leave the cleaning to us, you can add this to your booking on Camplify for a $99 fee.

5 star review

We arrived very late to our camp site over cup weekend to our caravan, tables, chairs, gazebo, kitchen, stove, lights, equipment – everything all set up for us.

We were unsure at first as hiring a caravan is not something we had ever done before but absolutely no regrets! We have already got our friends onto doing a group booking for two vans with us next year.

Very lovely couple, sat down & had a beer with us & told us about the best local beaches/camp sites to see. And on the day of handover we literally just got in the car and off we went & they packed up the whole site and caravan & towed it away.

Super great service but most of all a really beautiful and friendly couple which made the experience really great for us. 100% recommend.
